ExoMars 2016 TGO propulsion system. Customer: OHB-System

ExoMars is a scientific mission to Mars to mainly investigate whether life once existed or still exists on the planet. The 3.7t Orbiter (+600kg landing module) arrived at Mars in November 2016 and is fully functional. The propulsion system brought the orbiter from Earth orbit on a trajectory to Mars and successfully placed the probe into Mars orbit.

Space Structures provided the following structures engineering services:

  • Internal pressure analysis
  • Quasi-static analysis
  • Enforced displacement analysis
  • Sine vibration analysis
  • Random vibration analysis
  • Insert and bolt verification
  • Structural optimisation

MTG propulsion system. Customer: Airbus Defence & Space

The satellites of the current Meteosat system will be replaced by six satellites of a third generation. The new generation will provide significantly increased performance for weather forecast with a total satellite mass of ~3.2t. The propulsion system brings the satellites from GTO to GEO and supports the correct orbit positioning.

VEGA Electric Venting Valve. Customer: Omnidea-RTG

VEGA is an expendable launch system jointly developed by the Italian Space Agency and the European Space Agency. Development began in 1998 and the first launch took place from the Guiana Space Centre on 13 February 2012. It is designed to launch small payloads, 300 to 2500 kg satellites for scientific and Earth observation missions to polar and low Earth orbits. The Electric Venting Valve (EVV) is a valve within the propulsion system of VEGA.

Space Structures provided the following structures and system engineering services:
